The Zinat-ul-Masjid which, is also known as Ghata Masjid is located in Daryaganj, New Delhi. It was built by Zinat-ul-Nissa Begum in 1707 AD, the daughter of Emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque is believed to be a replica of the great Jama Masjid. It is a well protected and preserved monument which is one of the main attractions for the tourists.

The architecture of the mosque has been globally appreciated. One is spellbound by the way this mosque showcases the craftsmanship of the workers of the Mughal era. The mosque is a splendid palace like structure from inside. The sky-high minarets are very prominently seen from a distance. The minarets are mainly built with red sand stone. The three domes which complete the masjid are very uniquely constructed with very detailed equipments. The domes have been brightly covered in black and white colors, alternatively brushed on them.
The mosque has a large courtyard, which is built on a raised platform. There are some chambers in the mosque which were used for various purposes. . The walls of the mosque are built of random rubble and dressed stone while the floor is constructed with red sandstone.
An interesting fact about the mosque is that it had a tomb where Zinat-ul-Begum was buried. But, the tomb was later removed by the British for military purposes. This place introduces us to a whole new culture with their beliefs, style of living & of course food. The mosque is a well kept monument now and, is visited by many tourists.

It remains open on all days from10am-5pm.
